报告人简介:

Yunqiu (Daniel) Wang is a Senior Lecturer in the Biology Department at the University of Miami (UM) where he teaches genetics and conducts biology education research on how students learn biology. His main research interests focus on assessing implementation of cognitive science principles in the classroom, particularly those associated with conceptual change, use of the first two principles for more effective learning, which include identifying students' prior knowledge to inform instruction; and engaging students to promote conceptual change so they can construct deep knowledge organized in a conceptual framework.

He received the UM Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005 and has been a consistent contributor at the national annual conference of SABER (Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research), since its inaugural meeting in 2011. He was the UM Faculty Learning Community (FLC) Fellow in 2012, the UM Summer Institute Fellow in 2013, and his flipped teaching model in genetics was featured as a faculty success story in 2014. In 2015, he won a teaching grant from National Science Foundation and developed a case study titled “Bioluminescence and the 16th Century Caravaggism – A glowing intersection of Art and Science.”The case study has been accepted and will be published by National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science (http://sciencecases.lib.buffalo.edu/cs/). In 2016, he won the on-line learning fellow and produced a new course module that incorporates narrative techniques. He implemented the course module, role-playing a case study “Milk, Promise or Peril” in the genetics course in the spring of 2017.
